Mumbai luxury flat controversy sparks outrage over vegetarian-only housing claim
A real estate advertisement for a luxury apartment in Mumbai’s Tardeo area has sparked significant controversy and political backlash after a broker claimed the property is reserved exclusively for “pure vegetarians.”
In a viral social media video, broker Bhavesh Kaware, known online as “propertytransactionguru,” promoted a 2BHK flat valued between Rs 6.3 and 6.5 crore. Kaware allegedly stated that individuals who consume non-vegetarian food would be ineligible to purchase the home, while vegetarians would be welcome.
The claim has ignited a debate regarding dietary-based discrimination in the housing market, particularly in South Mumbai and the western suburbs. Political leaders from the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have expressed objections to the alleged restriction. Critics argue that food preferences should not serve as a condition for property ownership or access to housing.
