Mumbai man arrested for alleged sexual assault after posing as transgender person

A 28-year-old man, identified as Anil Sheshrao Shinde, was arrested in Mumbai following an alleged sexual assault in the Powai area. According to police, Shinde entered a woman's home on August 18 by posing as a transgender person and claiming he was there to perform a ritual to ward off the evil eye.

Once inside, Shinde allegedly entered a bedroom, threatened the victim with physical harm, and sexually assaulted her. Investigators used CCTV footage to track the suspect, who was seen leaving the scene in an autorickshaw. He was subsequently located and arrested in a slum area in Kharegaon, Thane.

Police noted that Shinde had also allegedly used other disguises, including impersonating a beggar. Following the incident, authorities issued a warning to residents, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid allowing unknown individuals into their homes, particularly those using religious or ritualistic pretexts.
