Mumbai wholesale milk prices to rise by ₹9 per litre

The Bombay Milk Producers Association (BMPA) has announced a ₹9 per litre increase in wholesale milk prices in Mumbai, effective September 1, 2026. This hike will raise the wholesale rate for tabela (cattle shed) milk from ₹93 to ₹102 per litre. The revised pricing structure is scheduled to remain in effect until February 28, 2027.

Producers cited rising operational costs as the primary driver for the adjustment, noting that the prices of essential cattle feed, such as grains, fodder, and oil cakes, have increased by up to 25 per cent. Additionally, the rising costs of livestock maintenance and transportation have contributed to the decision.

The price increase is expected to impact household budgets ahead of the festive season and will likely affect the broader food supply chain. Local retailers, neighborhood dairies, and doorstep suppliers are expected to pass the costs to consumers. Furthermore, businesses such as bakeries, sweet shops, and restaurants that rely heavily on milk for products like paneer, curd, and traditional sweets may face increased input costs and margin pressures.
