Mumbai Police arrest Bengaluru IT engineer for threatening Bollywood actors
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested 30-year-old Vaibhav Mishra, an IT engineer from Bengaluru, for allegedly sending extortion threats and intimidating communications to several individuals, including Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor.
Mishra reportedly used Instagram and email to target celebrities. In one instance, he allegedly sent an audio clip to Tusshar Kapoor demanding ₹5 crore. Investigators believe the suspect may have been attempting to exploit recent high-profile threats and shooting incidents involving celebrities that were attributed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
While police are investigating whether artificial intelligence was used to mimic voices, no forensic findings have confirmed the use of AI-generated audio. Authorities have stated that there is currently no evidence linking Mishra to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The Mumbai Crime Branch is continuing to probe Mishra's motives and whether other individuals were targeted.
