Mumbai police arrest exiled gangster Shravan Chavan

Mumbai's Deonar Police arrested dangerous gangster Shravan Janardan Chavan, 26, during a Ganpati procession in the Govandi area. Despite being exiled from Mumbai and Thane until June 2027, Chavan had re-entered the city to challenge the law.

Chavan is wanted for several serious offenses, including murder, robbery, extortion, and cases under the MCOCA act. During the arrest on September 14, Chavan reportedly attempted to violently resist, trying to strangle Constable Sunil Sonawane and causing physical injuries to the officer. An accomplice, Samadhan Pandurang Waghmare, also allegedly attacked police officers in an attempt to free Chavan before both were apprehended.

Chavan has a history of violence against authorities, including a 2022 incident where he attacked a jail official at Arthur Road Jail.
