Mumbai: Violence and stone-pelting reported in Parel during Eid procession

Violence erupted in the Parel-Chinchpokli area of Mumbai on the night of Wednesday, August 26, during an Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession. The unrest reportedly began near Laxmi Cottage following a dispute over traffic restrictions and noise violations involving motorcycles with modified silencers and loud horns.

The confrontation escalated from verbal altercations and slogans into physical clashes and stone-pelting between two groups. Several local citizens and police officers who intervened to control the situation were injured. In response to the violence, the Byculla-Lalbaug-Parel bridge was temporarily closed to vehicular traffic, and several roads were blocked to manage the crowds.

Mumbai Police have since brought the situation under control and deployed additional personnel to the area as a precaution. Authorities have filed cases against three named individuals—Rehan Masood Sayyed, Adil Khan Ahmed Khan, and Miraj Mohammed Firoz Rais—along with several unidentified persons. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dr. Manoj Sharma stated that the situation has returned to normal and urged the public not to circulate unverified rumors.
