Mumbai Police expose alleged fake extortion plot targeting Salman Khan

Mumbai Police have uncovered an alleged extortion plot targeting Bollywood actor Salman Khan. Investigators claim the accused fabricated a threat from an organized crime gang by creating fake identities and manufactured WhatsApp conversations to frighten the actor and extort money.

Discrepancies in the digital chats and CCTV footage that failed to corroborate the accused’s claims led to the discovery. During questioning, the individual allegedly admitted to fabricating the threat. Police recovered two mobile phones hidden near the Bandra seafront and seized screenshots of the fraudulent messages.

The investigation revealed that approximately Rs 1.30 lakh was transferred from Siwan, Bihar, via PhonePe, and subsequently collected in cash through a money transfer agent in Bandra. The accused has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Authorities are continuing to investigate whether the individual acted alone or as part of a larger conspiracy.
