Mumbai Police rescue 13 child laborers from fake jewelry unit

Mumbai Police rescued 13 child laborers, aged between 13 and 17, during a raid on a fake jewelry manufacturing unit in Kandivali West. The operation targeted the ‘Jahara Fashion Era’ unit located in the Charkop Industrial Estate.

Investigations revealed that the minors, all originally from various districts in West Bengal, were being forced to work nine to 10 hours a day producing imitation jewelry and bangles for inadequate wages. The children were also found living at the workplace.

Authorities have detained the unit owner, Ankit Kumar Mahendra Raval, and the operator, Saminur Motiyar Rahman Sheikh. Both face charges under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. The rescued minors have been handed over to the relevant departments for care, while police investigate the network responsible for transporting the children from West Bengal to Mumbai.
