Mumbai Police seek action over road-blocking Dahi Handi stage

Ghatkopar Police have requested immediate action from the Municipal Corporation regarding a Dahi Handi festival stage constructed in the middle of a road in Ghatkopar West, Mumbai. The stage is being erected by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for an event organized by leader Ganesh Chukkal at Amrit Nagar Circle.

Police officials reported that while a no-objection certificate was previously discussed on the condition that movement would not be obstructed, an inspection revealed the structure is being built in front of the Sagar Park building. Authorities expressed concern that the stage could block a 90-foot road, potentially preventing ambulances and fire engines from accessing the area during emergencies.

The police also noted that necessary permissions from the ward officer and the Vikhroli fire department had allegedly not been obtained. To highlight the danger of road obstructions, officials cited a recent fire in Indira Nagar where emergency vehicles struggled to reach the scene due to existing congestion and unauthorized parking.
