Mumbai reservoirs rise to 41% capacity as Vihar and Tulsi lakes overflow

Heavy monsoon rainfall over Mumbai and surrounding catchment areas has driven the water level of the city's seven reservoirs from about 28 % to 41.36 % in just 48 hours. Vihar and Tulsi lakes each reached 100 % capacity and began overflowing on the night of 7 July, relieving part of the city's water shortage.

The combined usable water stock now stands at roughly 5.98 million ML against a total live storage capacity of 14.47 million ML. Other reservoirs also rose sharply: Modak Sagar to 72.14 %, Tansa to 69.35 %, Bhatsa to 35.59 % and the Vaitarna system to around 35‑20 %. Despite the surge, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will keep a 10 % water supply cut in place until a review at the end of July.
