Mumbai sees surge in Covid-19 and Swine Flu cases as delayed monsoon blamed

Hospitals and private clinics in Mumbai have reported a sharp increase in patients testing positive for Covid‑19, H1N1 (swine flu), Influenza A and Respiratory Syncytial Virus, alongside a rise in viral gastroenteritis. Doctors say the concurrent spike began in the past week after a month when swine flu was dominant.

Health officials attribute the surge to a delayed monsoon that has left humidity unusually high and air stagnant, conditions that allow respiratory viruses to linger longer. They expect case numbers to fall once steady, heavy rains resume.

Elderly people, pregnant women, diabetics and those with chronic lung disease are identified as most vulnerable. Authorities advise wearing masks in crowded places, practicing hand and cough hygiene, and seeking medical care promptly if breathing difficulty or high fever develops.
