Mumbai shortens Mahalaxmi skywalk and insurers roll out EV two‑wheeler risk education

Mumbai’s planned foot‑over bridge linking the Mahalaxmi monorail station to Metro Line 3 has been truncated by about 200 metres, ending at Jacob Circle instead of the metro station. Officials said technical constraints, heritage structures, underground utilities and the protection of 78 trees forced the redesign, reducing the project cost by roughly ₹10 crore to a total of ₹70.05 crore. Commuters will now have to cross busy roads on foot, raising concerns about the promised seamless multimodal integration.

In parallel, Mumbai insurers are adding dedicated electric‑vehicle (EV) risk education to two‑wheeler policies as electric scooters gain popularity. Insurers highlight the need to explain battery‑related hazards, safe charging practices, and coverage limits for electrical faults. Clear guidance aims to reduce claim disputes and build rider confidence in a market where EVs present new technical risks compared with petrol scooters.
