Mumbai: Three arrested after Garba dispute leads to violent home attack in Malad
A violent dispute over the stopping of a Garba event led to a targeted attack on a family in the Malvani area of Malad, Mumbai. The incident occurred on October 16 around 10:30 PM after police had stopped a Garba celebration in front of a Durga Mata temple in accordance with regulations.
According to police reports, four individuals forcibly entered the home of Sanjay Dubey, a 43-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, and assaulted him with iron rods and bamboo sticks. Dubey sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized in the ICU. The victim's family has alleged that the attackers have targeted them repeatedly and expressed frustration over the police response time.
Malvani police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Three suspects—Rehan Akbar Sheikh, Mazhar Azhar Sheikh, and Ajay Kashyap—have been identified, with three individuals arrested and one, Ajay Kashyap, currently absconding. Authorities have increased security in the area to prevent further communal or festive-related unrest.
