Mumbai woman kept father's body in freezer for four years
In Mumbai, a woman kept her father's body in a freezer for approximately four years following his death in June 2022. The deceased, an 80-year-old man who suffered from cancer and kidney failure, reportedly died of a heart attack.
The woman, a lawyer living in the United States, and her son in Mumbai reportedly spent over 50 lakh rupees to preserve the body at a daycare center in Malad East. The situation came to light after the daycare center, which had been sealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) three months prior, began emitting a strong odor, prompting neighbors to alert the police.
Police investigations suggest the decision was driven by emotional attachment and the daughter's belief in reincarnation. Authorities have found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing, noting that the family possesses a death certificate. The family is reportedly considering moving the body to a facility in the United States that utilizes cryopreservation technology. Police are consulting medical experts from Cooper Hospital to understand the preservation methods used.
