Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project launches first steel bridge in Maharashtra

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has reached a milestone with the successful launch of its first steel bridge in Maharashtra. The 100-metre-long structure, weighing 1,405 metric tonnes, was installed over NH-3 at Dive-Anjur village in the Thane district.

Fabricated in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, the bridge was transported approximately 1,300 kilometres to the site for assembly. The construction process utilized high-strength bolts, a C5 protective painting system, and elastomeric bearings to manage vibrations and ensure durability. To minimize disruption to highway users, the final positioning of the bridge was conducted at night using an automated mechanism involving two 150-metric-tonne capacity hollow jacks and pre-tensioned Macalloy Bars.

The project highlights the increasing capacity of Indian industry to manufacture complex infrastructure components through precision engineering and stringent quality controls, such as Ultrasonic Testing of steel batches.
