Mumbai's BEST Secures 220 MW Solar and 110 MW Battery Storage Deal

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) approved Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to procure 220 MW of solar power together with a 110 MW/440 MWh battery energy storage system. The power will be sourced from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under a 25‑year Power Sale Agreement at a discovered tariff of Rs 2.86‑2.87 per kWh, with SECI receiving a fixed trading margin of Rs 0.07 per kWh. The capacity is split among three Maharashtra‑based developers: LC Infra Projects (50 MW), GH2 Solar (50 MW) and Navayuga Green Energy (120 MW). The procurement satisfies BEST’s Renewable Purchase Obligation and Energy Storage Obligation, reduces reliance on volatile short‑term market purchases, and is expected to stabilise electricity costs for consumers. All projects will connect to the state’s intra‑state transmission network, eliminating ISTS charges and losses, and form part of SECI’s larger 2,000 MW solar‑plus‑1,000 MW/4,000 MWh storage tender.
