Mumonjuku actor academy to disband in February 2027

Mumonjuku, the prestigious actor training academy founded by the late Tatsuya Nakadai and Kyoko Miyazaki, has announced it will disband at the end of February 2027. The announcement was made via the organization's official website.

Established in 1975, the academy has spent nearly 50 years producing prominent figures in the Japanese film and theater industry, including Koji Yakusho, Mayumi Wakamura, and Kenichi Takito. The decision to close follows the passing of Nakadai ten months ago. According to the statement, the academy is following the true intent of the words Nakadai left behind regarding the future of the organization.

While the academy will cease operations, Mumonjuku intends to fulfill projects initiated by Nakadai during his lifetime. Scheduled performances, such as the production ‘Toho’ in Kanagawa in December 2026 and in the Kinki region in February 2027, are expected to be the final works presented under the Mumonjuku name.
