Munafik: Melawan Iblis film set for September release

The horror film ‘Munafik: Melawan Iblis’ is scheduled for release in Indonesian cinemas on September 3, 2026. Directed by Guntur Soeharjanto, the film is an adaptation of the Malaysian horror title ‘Munafik’ and represents a collaboration between Indonesian and Malaysian production interests, including SKOP Productions.

The narrative follows Ustaz Adam, played by Arya Saloka, who struggles with grief and trauma following the death of his wife in a hit-and-run accident. His journey toward acceptance and sincerity is tested when he is asked to help Fitri, played by Acha Septriasa, who is experiencing demonic possession.

During a press conference at Epicentrum XXI Jakarta, the cast discussed the emotional depth of the film, noting that it explores themes of loss and the process of finding peace. Actors Arya Saloka and Dimas Aditya also shared insights into their preparation, which included relearning religious recitation to better portray their respective characters.
