Mundial Mujeres LIBRES football tournament begins regional phase in Mexico
The regional phase of the Mundial Mujeres LIBRES football tournament has commenced in Puebla, Mexico. The competition features winning teams from the country's four regions competing for a spot in the national final scheduled for October.
In the Central Region, the Atitalaquia team from Hidalgo secured the first qualification for the final after defeating the State of Mexico with a 4-0 victory. The tournament is promoted as a tool for social transformation, peace, and the exercise of rights for women, aligned with the vision of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
Officials including Karla Cuéllar Mendoza and Yadira Lira Navarro emphasized the importance of sports in fostering social cohesion and breaking gender myths through the use of public spaces.
