Chicago White Sox pursue long-term extension for Munetaka Murakami

Chicago White Sox General Manager Chris Getz has confirmed that the club is in preliminary discussions regarding a long-term contract extension for Japanese infielder Munetaka Murakami. Murakami, who joined the team on a two-year, $34 million deal, has emerged as a central figure in the White Sox lineup during his debut MLB season.

Despite a lower batting average, Murakami has demonstrated significant power, recording 29 home runs and 58 RBIs through 98 games. His performance has been credited with revitalizing the team's atmosphere and contributing to their position at the top of the American League Central division.

Getz expressed a strong desire to keep Murakami with the team long-term, noting that the player has also shown interest in staying. While specific financial details remain undisclosed, some analysts suggest a potential extension could exceed $100 million, given his age and rare power profile as a left-handed hitter.
