Munetaka Murakami enters contract extension talks with White Sox
Chicago White Sox infielder Munetaka Murakami is expected to enter negotiations for a long-term contract extension this offseason. According to reports from ESPN, the 26-year-old is looking to secure a deal that could become the largest in the history of the franchise.
White Sox General Manager Chris Getz confirmed that discussions with Murakami’s agent began in late summer and are ongoing. Murakami’s current contract is set to expire after the 2027 season. During the current season, Murakami recorded 35 home runs in 127 games, contributing to a strong infield foundation alongside Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery.
While Murakami’s season ended with a dip in batting average, his power numbers remain a significant asset for the team. The White Sox are reportedly prioritizing the strengthening of their starting pitching rotation this winter to complement their offensive core.
