Mungra Medical Center faces medicine shortages and equipment concerns
National Assembly member Rawien Raghoenandan has raised serious concerns regarding critical shortages of essential medicines and medical supplies at the Mungra Medical Center (MMC) in Nickerie.
Reports indicate that patients and their families are frequently forced to personally procure basic items such as Betadine, lactulose, bandages, plasters, and hydrogen peroxide. There are also reported shortages of intravenous potassium chloride (KCl). These shortages impose additional financial burdens on patients, who must often pay for transport and services to source medication from Paramaribo.
Furthermore, Raghoenandan is seeking urgent clarification regarding the functionality of the MMC morgue's refrigeration unit. There are unconfirmed reports that the cooling system may be malfunctioning, potentially leaving deceased individuals without proper storage conditions and preventing grieving families from viewing their loved ones. Raghoenandan has called on the MMC management and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labor to address these supply chain and technical reliability issues immediately.
