Munich Airport earns first German accessibility accreditation

Munich Airport has become the first airport in Germany to receive Level 1 certification under the Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) programme. The award, granted by the Airports Council International (ACI), recognises the airport’s strong commitment to barrier‑free travel for passengers with disabilities.

The AEA assessment covers accessible entrances and way‑finding, the quality of assistance services, digital information tools, staff training and cooperation with disability organisations. Airport chief executive Jost Lammers said the certification is “a strong signal for a fully accessible travel experience for all passengers.” Munich Airport plans to pursue Level 2 of the programme in the future.
