Munich and Augsburg hotel prices surge during Oktoberfest

Data analysis shows a significant surge in hotel prices in Munich and Augsburg during the Oktoberfest period. In Munich, the average price for a double room jumps from approximately 110 euros to 419 euros during the festival week.

The surge is driven by high demand, as the event attracts between six and seven million visitors annually, with roughly one-fifth coming from abroad. This demand also reduces availability; the number of available hotel listings in Munich drops from around 400 daily to approximately 240 during the first Oktoberfest weekend.

Augsburg also experiences price increases and reduced availability. While the rise is less extreme than in Munich, average room prices increase from 99 euros to as high as 166 euros during the festival's peak weekends. Other factors, such as the Bio Süd trade fair in Augsburg, also contribute to local price fluctuations.
