Munich arson attack: Two suspects detained near defense companies
Two Bulgarian nationals, a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, are in custody following an arson attack on a construction site near Munich's Ostbahnhof. The suspects face charges of property damage and attempted arson after allegedly throwing incendiary devices from a vehicle. While no injuries were reported, one device ignited a fire that police extinguished, and a second device was defused.
The site is located in close proximity to the headquarters of security technology firm Rohde & Schwarz and the drone manufacturer Helsing, the latter of which supplies equipment to Ukrainian forces. Authorities and politicians are investigating the incident as a potentially politically motivated attack.
Investigators are specifically examining whether the suspects may have acted as ‘disposable agents’ on behalf of a Russian intelligence service. Security agencies are also looking for potential links to other suspected cases of Russian sabotage within Germany, including a previous incident involving the surveillance of a Bavarian defense company.
