Munich bids to host 2028 UEFA Champions League Final

The Munich City Council has approved a bid to host the 2028 UEFA Champions League Final at the Allianz Arena. The final is scheduled for May 27, 2028, with a planned four-day fan festival in the Olympiapark and central fan meeting points.

To support the bid, the city has budgeted approximately 80,000 euros for 2027 and 2.3 million euros for 2028 to cover security, shuttle services, and marketing. Officials noted that these costs require additional municipal funds beyond the current sports department budget. However, previous hosting experience suggests actual costs may be lower than projected; for the 2025 final, budgeted costs of 8.6 million euros were ultimately settled at 4.83 million euros.

The economic benefits are expected to be significant, with previous finals generating an estimated 46 million euros in tourism revenue and 90 percent hotel occupancy. Mayor Dominik Krause stated that hosting again would present Munich as a high-performing, international host city, potentially serving as a platform for the city's 2036 Olympic and Paralympic ambitions.
