Munich celebrates 150 years of tramway service

Munich is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its tramway system, which first began operations on October 21, 1876. The original horse-drawn line spanned 2.8 kilometers, running from Promenadeplatz through Karlsplatz and the Central Station to the city limits at Nymphenburger Straße.

To mark the milestone, the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) organized various commemorative events. These included a parade of museum vehicles and historical trams. Volunteers from the Straßenbahnfreunde München association participated by wearing period-accurate uniforms and distributing souvenir tickets to passengers across the tram network.

According to the MVG, the anniversary festivities attracted more than 30,000 visitors to the city center during the jubilee weekend.
