Munich court upholds eviction of elderly tenant after denied access

A Munich court has upheld the eviction of an 88-year-old tenant who had lived in her apartment since the early 1980s. The Landgericht München I ruled that the termination of the lease was valid because the tenant repeatedly refused to allow her landlords full access to the property.

While landlords do not have an absolute right to inspect properties without a specific reason, the court found that the tenant’s own reports of maintenance issues—including problems with a 50-year-old bathroom, plumbing, and water taps—provided a legitimate basis for inspection. The tenant's refusal to grant access despite these reported defects ultimately led to the loss of her long-term tenancy.
