Annette Zimmermann warns of AI power concentration

At the 2026 Media Days in Munich, philosopher Annette Zimmermann called for a broader societal debate regarding artificial intelligence. She cautioned that current discussions are often polarized between excessive expectations and alarmist, dystopian scenarios.

Zimmermann argued that this focus on future catastrophes causes critical contemporary issues to be overlooked. She emphasized that the discourse must prioritize resource consumption, working conditions within AI companies, and the necessity of democratic control over the technology.

Additionally, Zimmermann expressed concern regarding the political influence of major technology corporations. She noted that these entities are increasingly exerting direct influence on political decision-making processes and are actively participating in the drafting of regulatory proposals.
