Munich hosts premiere of Oktoberfest-themed musical

The musical ‘Oktoberfest. An Almost True Story’ has premiered in Munich at the Bayerischer Hof, offering a comedic take on the history of the world-famous festival. The production features an international collaboration, including music by Bavarian composer Harold Faltermeyer, known for the ‘Top Gun’ soundtrack, and writing by American author Philip LaZebnik, who has worked on Disney films such as ‘Mulan’ and ‘Pocahontas’.

The story explores the origins of the Oktoberfest, centered around the wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese. Moving away from traditional tourist clichés, the production uses a circus arena setting to blend historical elements with entertainment. Originally staged in Los Angeles ten years ago, the musical was performed in German at Berlin’s Renaissance-Theater before its Munich debut.
