Munich immigration official on trial for bribery and forgery
A trial has commenced at the Munich I Regional Court against a former employee of the Munich Department of Public Order (KVR) and her husband. The 37-year-old defendant is accused of bribery in 85 separate cases involving the issuance of residence permits and provisional certificates.
According to prosecutors, the defendants allegedly accepted five-figure sums per permit to grant legal status to individuals who should have left Germany. In 68 of these instances, applicants reportedly used forged Slovenian residence documents, which the defendant's husband and another individual allegedly helped procure or manufacture. The prosecution is seeking the confiscation of 850,000 euros.
The KVR has stated that the case was uncovered through internal audits and routine case controls. Department head Dr. Hanna Sammüller noted that the rapid detection of these irregularities demonstrates the effectiveness of the department's anti-corruption strategies and strengthened internal audit measures.
