Munich lifts water-use restrictions as demand eases
The city of Munich will let its water‑use restriction expire on 1 August, deciding not to extend the emergency order that began on 14 July. The decision follows an assessment by Stadtwerke München (SWM) that daily consumption has fallen to about 330 million litres and is expected to drop further with the upcoming summer holidays.
Although the groundwater situation remains strained – the region has experienced a 32 % rainfall deficit over the past year and a record‑length heat wave – officials say the supply level is now manageable. Mayor Dominik Krause and SWM chairman Florian Bieberbach thanked residents for their water‑saving efforts and urged continued prudent use to avoid future shortages.
