Munich Marathon draws 40,000 runners and disrupts transit
More than 40,000 participants are taking part in the Munich Marathon, which is causing significant disruptions to local public transportation. The race route begins at the Olympiapark, passes through the city center and Marienplatz, moves through the English Garden, and concludes back at the Olympiapark.
The Munich Transport Corporation (MVG) has reported that several tram and bus lines are being diverted, interrupted, or suspended between 6:30 AM and 4:00 PM. Specifically, Tram 28 is out of service for the day, while Trams 19 and 21 are operating on limited sections. Passengers are advised to use the U-Bahn and S-Bahn, with the U3 line receiving increased service frequency between Olympiazentrum and Sendlinger Tor.
Weather conditions for the event are expected to be mostly cloudy with moderate temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius. While the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts that rain may arrive in the late afternoon, runners may remain dry until approximately 2:00 PM. However, participants should prepare for lively winds reaching speeds between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour.
