Munich Oktoberfest introduces new security and visitor measures
The 191st Oktoberfest in Munich is introducing several changes to address security and crowd management following previous issues with overcrowding and bomb threats. New measures include improved visitor guidance through a dedicated coordination office and modern observation management to prevent overcrowding. To spread out visitor numbers, traditional brass music will be permitted earlier in the day on weekdays and weekends.
Accessibility is also being prioritized through the introduction of ‘Hidden Disabilities Sunflower’ lanyards to assist guests with non-visible impairments.
Regarding demographics, data from the City of Munich indicates that the festival remains primarily a Bavarian event. Approximately 75 percent of visitors originate from Munich, the surrounding region, or the rest of Bavaria. About 20 percent of attendees come from abroad, with Italy identified as a major source of international visitors.
