Munich Oktoberfest parade includes memorial for 1980 bombing victims

The traditional parade of breweries and festival hosts marked the start of Oktoberfest in Munich, featuring a new moment of remembrance. For the first time, the procession stopped at the main entrance of the Theresienwiese to observe a minute of silence at the memorial for the victims of the 1980 Oktoberfest bombing.

This initiative was led by Munich Mayor Dominik Krause, who joined Deputy Mayors Mona Fuchs and Verena Dietl at the monument to lay wreaths. The 1980 attack, motivated by right-wing extremism, resulted in 12 to 13 deaths and more than 200 injuries. The gesture aims to honor the victims and serve as a visible sign against right-wing violence during the festivities.
