Oktoberfest 2026 reports multiple deaths and violent incidents

The 2026 Oktoberfest in Munich has been marked by several serious incidents, including multiple fatalities and a violent assault.

Authorities confirmed three deaths related to the festival. A 52-year-old employee from Augsburg died following a workplace accident involving the ‘Hangover’ ride. A 78-year-old visitor passed away in a hospital following a circulatory arrest. Additionally, a 99-year-old woman died in a Munich clinic after falling from her wheelchair when a horse's harness became entangled in the device.

In a separate incident near the festival grounds, a 52-year-old man was knocked unconscious and remains in a coma following a physical assault by an unknown individual.

Other notable events include a political altercation in the Schottenhamel tent, where an FDP official was reportedly slapped during a dispute over political slogans, leading the Mayor to revoke the seating privileges of the opposing party. Amidst these incidents, local authorities and clubs continue to urge visitors to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
