Oktoberfest security guard killed in fatal ride accident

A 52-year-old Serbian security guard, Aleksandar Spasic, died following a fatal accident at the Oktoberfest in Munich. The incident occurred on Monday evening around 9:50 PM at the “Hangover” free-fall tower attraction.

Preliminary investigations suggest Spasic was in a restricted area when he was struck and pinned by a descending gondola. While the exact cause remains under investigation by police, there were no immediate signs of a technical defect. Spasic’s family believes he may have entered the zone to retrieve a lost item, such as glasses or a phone, for a visitor, noting his reputation for being a cautious worker.

Following the tragedy, the Munich regulatory office and TÜV conducted a technical inspection of the ride. The “Hangover” tower has since been cleared and returned to operation. No festival visitors were injured in the incident.
