Munich police act on illegal homeless camps at three city locations

The Munich police have identified illegal homeless encampments at three sites – Candidstraße, under the Brudermühl Bridge, and the Osram playground – and have begun responding. A resident reported the camps, noting trash, fire hazards and the need for urgent action. Police officials confirmed that measures have already been taken and that the issue is city‑wide, not isolated.

The city’s Social Department coordinates an “AG Wildes Campieren” task force, which can order removals while also ensuring that homeless individuals receive counseling, support and voluntary accommodation offers. Street workers are already engaging with the encampment residents to build trust and explore solutions. The authorities stress that while rapid clearance may be needed for safety reasons, any action will consider legal requirements and aim to prevent merely shifting the camps elsewhere.
