Munich Secures World Triathlon Cup 2027‑28 as Borken Triathlon Triggers Temporary Road Closures

The Munich city council approved the German Triathlon Union's bid to host the World Triathlon Cup in 2027 and 2028 at Olympiapark. The event will feature over 200 professional athletes from about 18 nations, with annual municipal funding of up to €220,000. Mayor Verena Dietl highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting sport and supporting Munich’s Olympic ambitions.

In Borken, the 38th Borken Triathlon on 8 August 2026 will cause temporary road closures and traffic restrictions around Pröbstingsee, Hoxfeld and the K 50 cycle route. Detours will be signed for cyclists, while access to the camping site and nearby streets will remain open. The city asks motorists to avoid the area during the event.
