The Munich proposal emphasizes the use of existing facilities and a compact event structure centered around the Olympic Park. While most competitions are planned to take place in Bavaria, the bid includes football matches in Stuttgart and sailing events in Kiel. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier described the selection as a “huge opportunity for the whole of Germany,” a sentiment echoed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

However, the selection has prompted calls for caution regarding costs and infrastructure. Critics and politicians have emphasized the need for binding cost caps and a fair distribution of expenses between federal, state, and municipal governments to prevent the bid from becoming a financial burden. Significant infrastructure challenges remain, including the expansion of public transport and the development of an Olympic Village. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is expected to conclude its pre-selection process for the 2036 Games in March 2027.
