Municipal authorities in Lima and transport providers in La Plata implement local regulations
In Lima, Peru, the Metropolitan Municipality has seized electric vehicles that were being informally rented to minors for use on public roads. Authorities conducted the intervention in the Cercado de Lima after discovering that children were being permitted to drive these units in areas intended for vehicular traffic, posing risks to both the minors and pedestrians. Officials noted that the vehicles were being hidden under plastic covers and inside cargo motorcycles to evade municipal controls.
In La Plata, Argentina, the Association of Transportistas de Buenos Aires (ATBA) has petitioned the City Council to amend local regulations regarding school transport. The group is requesting that the maximum allowable age for school transport vehicles be extended to 22 years, aligning with regulations in nearby Berisso and Ensenada. Transport providers argue that the nature of school routes—which are typically short, scheduled, and predictable—results in less wear and tear compared to other transport services, making the current age limits economically difficult to maintain.
