Municipal authorities in Mexico restrict venue use and event permits

In Ciudad Juárez, Mayor Héctor Rafael Ortiz Orpinel announced plans to stop renting the Josué Neri Santos Municipal Gymnasium for mass concerts. This follows a closure by the State Subsecretariat of Government after a recent Alfredo Olivas concert exceeded authorized hours. The mayor intends to prioritize the facility for its original sporting purpose, including tournaments, boxing, and wrestling, rather than large-scale musical events.

Separately, in San Luis Potosí, the state congress suspended the ‘Un Legado a la Nación’ athletic race scheduled for October 11. The State Congress blamed the municipal government for refusing to authorize street closures and security personnel. However, municipal authorities countered that the request did not meet the required 15-day advance notice and that security resources were already committed to previously scheduled events.
