Municipal budget challenges reported in Nidderau and Neuburg

Local governments in Nidderau and Neuburg are facing significant financial pressures due to rising costs and budget deficits.

In Nidderau, the CDU party has criticized a potential increase in property tax B, which could rise by up to 1,400 percentage points starting in 2027. This measure is being considered to close a financing gap of approximately five million euros following previous austerity measures. Party chairman Otmar Wörner warned that such increases could harm the city's attractiveness to businesses and residents, particularly impacting low and middle-income households.

In Neuburg, city treasurer Markus Häckl has warned that the municipality is running out of funds, with existing debts reaching approximately 26.5 million euros. The city may need to take on tens of millions in new debt next year, driven largely by the costs of renovating and expanding schools. This financial strain threatens several major infrastructure projects, including a proposed pedestrian and bicycle bridge, a second Danube bridge, and a new combined indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
