Municipal budget constraints reported in Erlangen and Gräfenberg

The cities of Erlangen and Gräfenberg in Germany are facing significant financial challenges requiring budget consolidation and restrictions.

In Erlangen, the CSU and Green/GL parliamentary groups are discussing a list of potential savings on voluntary services through 2030 to restore the city's financial stability. While cuts are expected, the groups aim to avoid social hardship and long-term costs. They have reached an agreement to preserve the municipal technical school and to reduce rather than eliminate the city library's book bus service.

Gräfenberg has implemented a budget freeze following a loss of approximately 480,000 euros in trade tax revenue. The city must also manage payments for the outdoor swimming pool and district levies. This financial situation has placed the future of the local youth center in uncertainty and has impacted renovation projects, such as those in the Forchheim district where costs for building insulation and roofing have risen significantly.
