Municipal candidates address housing and development

municipal elections mayoral candidates long-term care housing development zoning orders

Candidates in upcoming municipal elections for The Blue Mountains and the Parksville-Qualicum region are addressing key community issues through questionnaires.

In The Blue Mountains, mayoral candidate Peter Bordignon expressed support for a 192-bed long-term care home on municipal land. Regarding a separate proposal for 612 rental units via a Minister’s Zoning Order, Bordignon indicated support for the units and suggested considering the zoning order route following public consultation.

In the Parksville-Qualicum area, mayoral candidate Nessa Cymbalisty identified residential, community, recreational, and commercial development as pressing issues. She emphasized that development must enhance the community's unique character and address both immediate and generational needs through a regenerative perspective.
