Municipal civil defenses attend national disaster prevention meeting

Municipal civil defense representatives from Italva and Candeias participated in the II National Meeting of Municipal Civil Defenses held in Brasília. Organized by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM), the event brought together managers, technicians, and specialists to discuss risk management, disaster prevention, and emergency response strategies.

A primary focus of the discussions was the impact of climate change and the El Niño phenomenon. Data presented indicated that between July 1 and September 30, climate events such as heatwaves, droughts, windstorms, and floods affected 1,035 municipalities and 6.9 million Brazilians, resulting in losses exceeding 3 billion reais.

The meeting included contributions from experts from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). Participants aimed to exchange technical knowledge and implement preventive protocols to better protect local populations from future environmental risks.
