Municipal consumer offices provide guidance on energy subsidy changes
Municipal Consumer Information Offices (OMIC) in various regions are providing advisory services to citizens regarding changes in utility billing and energy subsidies.
In response to national energy subsidy frameworks, such as the Registro de Acceso a los Subsidios de Energía (RASE), offices are assisting users in navigating new consumption limits. For electricity, Level 2 users maintain subsidies up to 350 kWh monthly, while Level 3 users are covered up to 250 kWh; consumption exceeding these limits is charged at full rates. For natural gas, subsidies apply to specific blocks of consumption, with Level 2 receiving a 64% discount and Level 3 receiving 55% for up to 149 cubic meters monthly.
Additionally, local authorities are addressing concerns regarding the modification of the 'Zona Fría' (Cold Zone) regime. This reform restricts automatic benefits for certain areas, potentially leading to higher bills even if consumption remains constant. OMIC offices are acting as mediators in consumer-provider disputes and helping residents apply for social tariffs and benefits for electricity-dependent individuals.
