New Delhi Municipal Council approves 28 agendas including EV procurement and water bill amnesty

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved 28 new agendas aimed at modernizing civic infrastructure. Key measures include a one-time amnesty scheme for late payment surcharges on pending water bills and a policy to mandate electric vehicle procurement for all new council vehicles. The council also granted in-principle approval for a 50-bed Ayush hospital in Sarojini Nagar and approved transitioning electricity billing for Dhobi Ghats workers from commercial to residential rates.

New Solid Waste Management bye-laws have also been approved, introducing mandatory monthly user charges for residential, commercial, and industrial establishments in the Lutyens’ area. The rules establish spot fines, such as Rs 500 for littering or dumping waste from vehicles and up to Rs 7,500 for open waste burning.

In a separate development, civic authorities conducted a late-night demolition drive in Shalimar Bagh on Max Hospital Road to remove alleged illegal encroachments for a road-widening project. The operation, which affected portions of the Madina Mosque, drew protests from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), who questioned the timing and manner of the demolition.

Additionally, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) announced plans to pilot the Indore waste management model in its West Zone to improve waste segregation and collection accountability.
