Municipal Corporation of Delhi discusses new waste management rules

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) held a special meeting to address solid waste management improvements, focusing on strengthening waste segregation at the source and increasing public participation.

Chaired by Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, the meeting covered the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and a proposed four-way waste segregation system. This system aims to categorize waste from homes, institutions, markets, and other establishments into specific groups to facilitate scientific collection, processing, recycling, and reuse.

Councillors discussed the registration of Bulk Waste Generators, the need for enhanced awareness drives, and the importance of improving safety and welfare measures for sanitation workers. The Deputy Mayor emphasized that effective waste management requires coordination between the MCD, resident welfare associations, market associations, and local citizens.
