Municipal council races underway in Brandon and Winnipeg

In Brandon, four candidates are competing for the Ward 3 seat on the city council following incumbent Barry Cullen's decision not to seek re-election. The contenders include Kevin Chambers, Quentin Derhak, Enver Naidoo, and Craig Shanks. Shanks, the only candidate residing within the ward, has emphasized the need for proactive drainage management and increased commercial development to bolster city revenues and address recurring flooding issues.

In Winnipeg, the River Heights–Fort Garry riding features a three-way race to fill the vacancy left by John Orlikow. Candidates Sara Macarthur, Georgina Sabesky, and Jorge Requena Ramos are focusing on transit reliability and infrastructure. Key discussion points include improving bus service consistency, enhancing safety at transit stops, and addressing major infrastructure projects such as Route 90 to manage traffic diversion on residential streets.
